It's a miracle...Sharon helped me find Tommy..she suggested we go look around 7 pm and we were calling him and Sharon heard a meow from a drain in the road and when we looked it was my beautiful Tommy..

It took about 15 nminutes to coax him out as he would have still been so frightened but we got him..

He is now safely home and I am the happiest person on this entire earth and just want you all to know that God sent me a miracle named Sharon and she did say on the phone "don't worry Adrian, we'll find him" and we did..

I am still walking on air and just want to thank everyone on here who said never to give up hope..

THANK YOU SO MUCH....

Tommy I love you..and Sharon I love you too and god bless you so much and I hope each and everyone of you find a miracle too..

Thanks from Adrian.

Went door knocking again today with no luck..A good friend of mine Sharon is going to help me search the area tonight..

I will always keep hope thanks to the people on this site who have given me new hope..

I love Tommy more than I can say and when the day comes when I see him again safe and happy on my lap will be a great day indeed..

My whole world has been shattered by one missing cat but I love him and I miss him terribly but that is just me, it's the way I am and 500 million dollars wouldn't change me at all.

I could live in the gutter and be happy as long as all the animals that need love are right by my side..

Thanks from Adrian.

Hi, I'm Adrian and I live in Adelaide, South Australia, I'm 52..

On Friday eafternoon July 23 2010 I had to take my cat Tommy to the vet which is around 2-3 miles away but as I got there somehow he escaped from the cage as I was taking him from the car park to the vet.

He was frightened and ran and jumped a fence and disappeared and I spent hours looking for him.

The very next morning I went back to the area calling for him with no luck..I printed some flyers with his photo and put them everywhere in that area.

I miss him so much and I am so devastated I cannot sleep or eat and it feels like I will never see him again even tho I have done all the things to help him being found like calling the Animal League, lost ads in papers, flyers etc..

He wasn't wearing his collar and isn't microchipped, he is 5 years old and desexed.

As I live alone he is my world. he purrs loudly and is very affectionate..

A valuable lesson for me was to keep his collar on but he hated it so I let him get his way...

I'm sure I feel no different to everyone of you reading this who has also lost a much loved pet but as I live alone I just felt the need to put my feelings out there over the internet to my fellow cat lovers..

Waking up at all hours thru the night with a hollow feeling in my stomach and shedding many tears over worry and negative thinking isn't helping but I try to find hope anywhere I can and reading success stories on this site has helped..

I am not after any sympathy as I am well aware there are millions of other things in the world far more important than me and my lost Tommy..

I just want to share my feelings with someone who may understand..

Thank you from Adrian.

On Saturday July 3rd, the grey black striped cat was in our back yard and has not left since. We have seen the cat several times in the past year, but she usually just came by, played a little and left. This time, she looked skinny, a bit dirty and very eager for food and company.

We have a very friendly younger cat visiting our back patio, sometimes she stays all day and rests. I have fed her in the morning and evening, when I feed my two indoor cats. She looks to be about 3-4 years old, has a somewhat clipped left ear, and weighs about 7-8 lbs. Please get in touch, and I will send pictures..

Stopped to pet this kitty Wednesday morning on my paper route, thought she had the worriedest eyes I'd ever seen on a cat. I carried on. I see a lot of cats at 4 AM.

Saturday morning saw her again, 8 blocks over on my other route. Thought... ok, you're lost.

She's one of those aggressively affectionate cats, just plunges her face into your hand and rubs her body against your legs constantly. She looks more content and relaxed now, with food, water, and a soft place to sleep in the garage. Can't stay there though.

Someone must be missing this total sweetheart. Not declawed, drooping belly of a spayed female, didn't look too skinny, so maybe lost no more than a week or so.

Found around W5th and Mohawk.

Too bad can't upload pics here.

Beffkin, I love you! You have given me hope again :) This bugger Meep has gone walkabouts again and I am distraught with worry. Another cat Obi went missing 10 months ago too, so you have given me a glimmer of hope for both of them. Thank you and I hope your cat is still fat and even happier!!

Angela, did your cat come home? It is so heartbreaking isn't it - I hope you've had a happy outcome too.

Thanks so much for your concern kelz.
Sadly my Obi has never come home and I spoke to Nilly after a few months and she didn't have good news then either. All we can hope is that someone has taken them in and they are both happy. I still send my other half to the lost dogs home regularly, but no joy. Not a task I am up to, I am too much of a softy and leave in tears both for Obi and all those poor cats who's lives are in the balance. On the downside, I have recently discovered that the dog next door kills cats, so I am partly resigned to the idea that she is gone for good.

Sadly my number 1 cat, Meep, has now been missing for a week and I am utterly distraught. I know he would avoid the dog, so that is not a worry for me, but as to everything else....? He did disappear for a week once before, so I'm hoping with all my heart he's locked in somewhere and will come home.

Thanks again for caring :)

I was taking my two cats, Honey & Bandit, (mother & son - They came so close to being named Maggie & Arthur), to the St Kilda Vet to be Microchiped on Thursday afternoon.
I was carrying them both in a fairly large pet carrier when halfway there, a hinge pin on the door snapped & they both got loose on a fairly busy street (Inkerman St, St Kilda, VIC, Aus).
Naturally, being cats, they both took off in different directions across the street & through the traffic, (That was nearly my 1st heart attack).
Honey to the right, Bandit to the left.
Both terrified from the unacustomed,(to them), noise/traffic.
I went after Honey first, crossed the street & of course, she took off back across the street & through the traffic (2nd heart attack)& went through a security grill into an underground carpark, while out of the corner of my eye I saw Bandit heading towards the nearby Housing Commission Flats, (a block of over 300 Flats).
Thinking that I couldn't do much even if I caught them, I continued on to the Vet & explained what happened & that they'd be late for their 2.00pm appointment.
They immediately loaned to me one of their pet carriers, (no charge), & I went back looking for the two miscreants.
I retrieved Honey straight away from the carpark by buzzing one of the flats & politely explained the situation & was let in to look & found her at the back of the carpark.
I carried her around for the next couple of hours while looking for her son, Bandit (Honey's gotta go on a diet), with no luck.
I went home & quickly drafted an A4 "Missing Cat" notice with a couple of old photos on my computer.
I printed about 20 copies and displayed them in the immediate area where he'd gone missing, while at the same time, I was looking for him. Several people stopped & looked at these, asked me questions, gave me advice & promised to keep an eye out for him.
The next day, Friday, I was out looking for him by 6.00am (with more posters - upgraded with more details).
Again, many people stopped, looked, asked for details, & etc. Some from the day before asked if they could help & promised to keep looking for him.
A lady from the Housing Commission Flats came up to me & told me that she'd seen (& heard) him about 2.00am that morning and told me where he went. I searched for the next 6 hours with no luck, except for the well-wishes of many of the people I met.
By Friday evening, after being awake for 18 hours, I was really getting worried about him, imagining all sorts of things. (Won't go there).
I also received a couple of phone calls asking me if I'd found him yet & should they keep looking, as well as one bloke calling to say that someone on a bicycle was riding along Inkerman St & ripping some of my posters down, (when I went to look, I found that someone had tried to put them back in place).
Based on what the Lady from the flats told me & my own knowledge of the 'night owl" habits of my cat's behaviour, I went out at 1.00am Saturday morning & found him within 10 minutes. I was searching a particular block of scrub, calling his name, when I heard him calling me, (Cat's have their own particular voices, just like humans).
He was across the street, about 50 metres away & couldn't be carried home quick enough. (I noticed he kept his head out of the bag, looking around & marking the way:-). I would've taken a photo then but the only point of view I had was tail up & head down in the food bowl for the next half hour.
I thank everyone who offered or gave help, support & encouragement during my search, (I was really worried about the little buggar).

Now I'll get down to the nitty gritty of giving advice from what I did (& didn't do & learned) during this experience.

Take photos of your pet at least every 3 months.

Pre-prepare a document on your computer with current photos, description & etc. so that you only have to add the location & circumstances of the loss.
It's important to get the details out as soon as possible.

Include also in this document, your first name & contact Ph number & hours you're availble to receive calls. email address as well.
State the time & date of the loss & try to update as sightings come in, (I printed a little tag of the 2.00am Friday sighting & taped to the already existing notices).

I also added a highlighted line advising that I would take down the notices when Bandit was found or a week had passed. (This I did, I removed all notices this morning & put up a few "Thank You" notices which I will remove tonight).
It's also important to try to do the right thing, especially when you are relying on others, but also for it's own sake. Take down old & out of date notices so that the ones that need to be seen can be seen.
When It's time to take down the notices, try to leave the area clean & tidy by removing all traces & properly 'binning' them. (I used masking tape because it's easy to use, tear, apply & remove cleanly)

Notify your Vet & keep them up-to-date. People finding an animal will usually contact the nearest Vet.

When putting up the notices, try to be responsible of where you put them, talk/ask people where would be convenient & etc. By doing so I received tremendous support & help. (I even made some new friends).

I was lucky, Bandit was just outside of his own territory, but because he wasn't sure which way to go, he stayed in that area & waited for me to find him & take him home.

One of my cats went missing for 10 months. One day she appeared like nothing had happened, fat and happy. I don't know where she was, but she was being fed!

I frantically searched for my little sweetheart for 11 days. He escaped from the house the night before a snowstorm, the worst in years, we accumulated 2 feet of snow. He has been an indoor only cat since he was 5 weeks old, he is now 1.5 years old and I was petrified. My neighbor, whom I've never met until tonight, called and said she thought he was on her doorstep. Sure enough it was him! Thank God and thank goodness for my neighbor - her name- Angel. She was indeed my angel.
I have to credit the flyers, and of course Angel. I posted about 60 throughout the neighborhood. I also posted lost ads on various websites, including this one and Craigslist. I emailed all the local vets, animal hospitals, rescue centers, and animal control the flyer with photos. I kept food out and even put out his litterbox, although I don't think that helped much, because I never had a sighting and he is thin as a rail, so I don't think he was eating the food. I also rented humane traps, but didn't catch anything, but did have a oppossum eat the catfood outside my door - that was kind of scary since I was trying to get to the door.
All and all it was the flyers that did the trick. I posted them on all the shared mailboxes and taped copies on several doors. I had 4 color photos to show all his markings. It is amazing how many animal lovers called and reported sightings -
Keep your chin up and don't lose hope. My little sweetheart survived a major snowstorm and traffic in busy area. He needs a bath badly, as he smells like the motor of a car, he was probably climbing in the motors to stay warm. Thank God he didn't meet his fate by a fan blade!
Oh, another important thing to note is the behavior profiles a lot of sites report. My little guy is very friendly, outgoing, and never met a stranger. He is a curious and isn't afraid to explore. The sites that profile say these cats are more likely to wonder the greatest distances and timing is essential (it always is when they are lost), but the distance they can go is pretty much unlimited if they get scared or distracted. In my case, he was gone for 11 days and was found 3 townhouses down and across the street. Who know's where he wandered in the meantime, but that is where he was found, close to home.
Good luck and don't lose hope.

Our cat Coco went missing 5 days ago. We searched everywhere day and night, talked to neighbors, put up posters, listed on the Internet, checked the Humane Society and shelter every day, visited area animal hospitals with no luck. She had simply vanished! At 11:00 p.m. on day five, our next door neighbor knocked on our door and said she has something we want! Apparently, Coco had climbed in an open window and got inside their house. She went into an extra bedroom that is used by the neighbor's step-daughter when she visits. They never open the door of this bedroom when the daughter is not there, so Coco has been trapped in the bedroom for five days! They never heard her meow or cry or anything.

We are so happy to have Coco back. God really answered our prayers. It's just a miracle that she was at the house next door and we never knew. Everyone who is still looking for their animals....please, please never give up looking and ask each and every neighbor in the area to check their homes, garages, sheds, etc. Good luck to all of you. Our hearts are with you.

When it reached his 6th day away, I was so depressed and really thought something bad had happened (or someone). But suddenly there he was standing casually talking away as if nothing unusual had happened. If only we could understand cat talk! My spunky boy is in great health, no injuries, just a little hungry. I am so, so relieved to have him home. I just hope my Obi is out there somewhere, happy, healthy but just lost.

I hope everyone else has the same positive outcome in their kitty searches. Hugs x

Your last comment MM makes me feel so much better. When ringing about my missing tabby, I've been given so much negative attitude, but its so good to hear scanning is done for all cats. I ended up with the tabby (& her sisters) because the shelters said they wouldn't even consider putting them up for adoption, despite not even having seen them. I've been worried that they might not scan all the tabbys because of this seemingly "not another one" attitude.

And I totally agree .... get your pets chipped folk. Even if they are not registered, get the chip put in. If only we could put in GPS too ....

May I add to this - ask your neighbours when they open sheds, garages, etc to walk away for half an hour or so to allow the cat to come out by itself. Often cats will cower even tighter where they are hiding if a stranger goes in to look for them. Specially if they are frightened or injured.

I work, as a volunteer, in a cattery at an animal shelter and so many cats and kittens come in which have not been chipped. This makes it very difficult to re unite owner and animal.
We have been able to find owners after many months and many years (11 years for one) because of the chips and that is a wonderful feeling all round.

All cats are scanned for a chip when they come in - no matter the temperament.
